I've recently finished off some new designs which are now on the site. The one Im most pleased with is probably the new series Ice Warrior, Skaldak. Firstly I love Ice Warriors and the modern update was ace, even if I wished they had held back from showing the face at end of Cold War. He was by far the hardest colouring job in the recent batch. I have a rule when it come to the colouring process, colours need to be flat and two different colours should never touch. A line must separate them. I really on the original line drawing to create the tones for shading. So to create the same finish was tricky, the new Ice Warrior glistens and has a depth of colour. Its a similar issue I had when colour in the original Dalek, finding the exact grey to represent metal. I did try at first to just use one colour for the body, much like the classic series Ice Warrior I've created but it just looked so flat. Fortunately Skaldak is made of more sections which made it easier incorporate some subtle variations in the greens. It still took a few attempts for me to be happy with though.
I'm very pleased to finally be able to have more variations of Weeping Angels, one attacking to go alongside my other design. I also just had to do the Cherub Weeping Angels, creepy little things. The colouring of them was easy but the initial drawings were pretty tricky, trying to capture there expressions. I've wanted to do Strax for ages, everyone needs a Sontaran butler in there life! I thought him in his suit was a must. I'm sure I'll get round to adding a top hat at some point. It was a little difficult getting the colours that worked well with the drawing for his suit. Also settling for a skin tone but after a couple of attempts I'm pleased with the colours.
Finally I created my first non Who work based on this style, a little birthday present for my sister who has wanted me to make an R2D2 for some time now. I may do some more non Who things in the future but I've got so many things I want to get done first. However if someone was really desperate for a print based on something else I would very much consider it.
