Today I took delivery of this rather beautiful thing. The Regeneration box set. The mammoth DVD collection featuring every regeneration story of the Doctor in the shows 50 year history. That's 9 stories, 37 episodes (one of which is a movie) and 11 faces of the Doctor. Highlights of the set include the first release of the first Doctor serial "The Tenth Planet" complete with the missing part 4 reanimated, the EPIC 10 part second Doctor swansong "The War Games" featuring the first appearance of the Doctors home world Gallifrey and the thrilling "Caves of Androzani" which sees the fifth Doctor give everything for just the life of his companion. The box itself is a delight. Presented in the form of a robust box, the pages are a thick card that makes it feel as if your holding something very special before you even start looking at the stunning photography and smart typography. It's easy to moan about rebuying stories you already own but the presentation is something special. Plus the fact is not everybody already owns all these stories and for fans of the new series its a great chance to get an overview of the Doctors history. I myself was obviously missing "The Tenth Planet" but also "Planet of the Spiders", "Time and the Rani" and the TV movie featuring the only on screen appearance of the 8th Doctor. So it was a good chance to fill some gaps in my collection. I've already watched the "The Tenth Planet" and frankly the whole thing was worth it for that alone. Also it gives me a reason to watch my personal fav story "Logopolis" again in which the Master is probably at his most evil and destructive. |
